Basking in the Glow

If it seems too quiet here at the blog, that's because we've taken a short hiatus while we basked in the glow of REACHING OUR INITIAL FUNDRAISING GOAL!!

To date we have raised $11,400 which will go to sending our team to Anaheim in less than a week. We could not have done it without all of the funds donated through this blog. Thank you.

If you are visiting us for the first time and are interested in donating, please do! Any funds which are not spent on our trip will go towards building our program next year. This year's program was started entirely with grant money which will not be available next year. I have a feeling that our numbers will swell given the success in our first year and would be great to have the resources to support the students.

While we are in Ahaheim we will blog daily, so stay tuned April 17-21 as we take on the World Championship!

  2. If I could offer a small suggestion ... why not offer Dwolla as a payment method for donations? You will get to keep more of your money that way ... there is a flat fee of $0.25 per transaction over $10, and transactions under $10 are free ... you keep more than you keep with Paypal. Dwolla is a payment system which could revolutionize online payments by saving people money and taking away the monopoly that credit card systems have over electronic transactions, with their high fees.

I am a parent at MMCS and also am a web developer, so I could help if you needed assistance. Dwolla doesn't accept credit cards (only real money) but does work with bank accounts (which is the whole point), so you could still continue to offer paypal for those who prefer to use credit cards, but for those who could use a bank account, you're offering the opportunity to pass on a greater portion of money donated to the actual cause, as well as gaining momentum for a network that could save us all money in the long-term.

  3. To compare, Paypal usually charges 3% + $0.30 per transaction, so a $5 donation would cost you $.45 with Paypal, but with Dwolla, would be free. A $500 donation would cost you $15.30 on Paypal, with Dwolla it would be $0.25.
